The Sharing Learning partnership provides learning opportunities for pupils in Derry/Londonderry, specifically in relation to KS2 Science and KS3 Citizenship.  The partnership has introduced new methodologies for the provision of collaborative science classes and has also developed a very strong partnership with Lisneal College, the benefits of which extend beyond the provision of shared classes to the formation of mutually beneficial institutional links.  In addition to this the post primary schools now provide shared parent evenings on a shared basis and are exploring means of formalising the relationship between the PTAs.

Learning Focus: The partnership has developed innovative and easily replicable methodologies for the provision of KS2 Science.  Over the course of the programme over 250 pupils have benefited from these classes, engaging in a vital aspect of the curriculum that would not have been possible without the support provided by St. Mary’s; pupils from 3 local primary schools attended a weekly class in a local community centre, classes were delivered by a St. Mary’s teacher using a audio visual equipment, facilitated by teachers and class room assistants from the Primary Schools.

Over the course of the programme St. Mary’s College and Lisneal College have developed a ground breaking relationship between the two schools, leading to increased effectiveness in the provision of the Citizenship aspect of the KS3 Curriculum.  Pupils from Years 1 – 3 attend shared classes on an alternate basis at the two campuses, by examining issues regarding their own backgrounds and experiences the pupils fully engage with the areas covered by the curriculum in ways that are highly relevant to their daily experiences.
