Primary Integrating/Enriching Education Project (PIEE)

The Primary Integrating/Enriching Education Project (PIEE) is a three year project beginning in September 2009 funded by the International Fund for Ireland and managed by the NEELB and subsequently ESA.  It is monitored by a Project Steering Group representing the following educational partners: North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB), the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS), the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) and Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta (CnaG).

The project aims to support primary schools from different sectors, located in close geographical proximity to collaborate in areas such as:  School Development Planning; Shared Curriculum Activities during and after school and in the summer, Staff Development and Sharing Resources including human resources.  This Project involves children, young people, staff, parents and governors. It is targeted at primary schools with an enrolment of less than 105 pupils with partnerships focusing on curricular development in the areas of The World Around Us, Personal Development and Mutual Understanding and The Arts. Up to 30 primary schools will be involved in the project.

The main outcomes will be:
- Quality cross community curricular experience
- Establishment of the Partnering Model of Integrating Education
- Sustainable, cross community partnerships of primary schools

  What they said....

...we feel that our first year of PIEE has afforded our schools, our children, Parents, Governors and communities opportunities to work together for the mutual good of our communities, to understand each other a little better, to enrich the provision that we make for our children, to explore our diversity and respect our differences...

Parents and governors are very supportive and value the work of the two schools and their commitment to the project . The schools also value the trust of the parents in giving them the support to try things differently...
